Blindfolded

When I was young I went to India
in a car with a friend,
blindfolded,
and with my ears all clogged-up

I was an isolated, insulated, egotistic,
unexperienced joke,
geographically on the move,
but with a head that stood still
in time & space, impossible to pry open,
with a mind encircling itself

Had I journeyed Turkey, Syria, Iraq,
Pakistan, India & Nepal
with my present old boy experience,
I would have TRAVELLED,
but that trip, sadly, was much more in line
with what Bob Dylan says in Not Dark Yet:
“It looks like I'm moving / but I'm standing still”
